listen and buy

Friday, January 26th, 2007

A big variety of online shops offering trance music spreads out on the internet. Additionally, trance music internet stations like etn.fm offer fine mixes by well known DJs. The problem for the listener is, that these two sources of music did not interact so far. Many times I listened to a track on a trance radio station and I had the following problems: a) I knew neither artist nor name of the track and b) if I liked it I did not know which store has it or if it is even released so far. The new site for electronic dance music called “Vonyc”, owned by famous german DJ Paul van Dyk is a combination of a radio station and shop. Tracks being played are listed with their full title and - if buyable - you’ll see the adequate “buy track” button lit up.
Very practical in my view.

Thanks to ETN.fm

I’ve been listening extensively to the trance stream of ETN.fm since the beginning of the year and I have to express a big “Thank you” to the people behind it. In my view it is the ultimate source for listening to the finest Trance music and the best DJ’s in the world This especially since I do not go to clubs at all (too smoky, too loud, too old for that) and most of the radio stations in Berlin play basically crappy teen charts - the only good electronic music show is the one from Paul van Dyk at Fritz.

Additionally ETN.fm needs to be praised for being a non-profit radio station which is based on the enthusiasm of a few people and on donations.
There is not many (internet) radio stations around that offer such a good quality program.

short notes

Some short notes on various trance topics:

I dont know if it was a mistake of Beatport to announce that the one millionth downloader will get a very nice prize because the counter at the top - being still far away from that number - moves awfully slow and I wonder if many people just wait with their desired downloads until the number comes closer to 1 million? Maybe at one time it will not move at all anymore? ;)

Speaking of mistakes, B&W’s “mistaken” was already a very nice tune, Peak vs. Jpl’s “mistake” is even nicer - and in opposite to many DJ’s I prefer the original mix and not the verny mix.

Mentioning DJ’s - another brilliant mix last night by Andi C. Together with Menno de Jong’s Intuition Radio Show it is one of the best shows at etn.fm.

teardrops

This is probably the record whose release I waited the longest for. Mark Norman’s “teardrops” is finally available in the downloadshop and of course I bought it right away. I can’t even remember when they played it the first time on etn.fm.
So, a big thank you to the dutch guys behind Mark Norman. Seeing that Menno de Jongs “Tundra” comes already from the Netherlands, it seems that that country rules the dance scene at the moment ;)
