Fresh tunes in the trance sector
Oct 7th, 2009 by Dietmar

Here are some highly recommendable new trance tracks:

Simon Patterson – Always (Original Mix).

Already the previously released “thump” was a very decent tune, it was mixed well and had a surprisingly melodic break. “Always” tops it easily though. It belongs to my favorite tracks of 09 so far. Everything fits in this tune.

Thomas Coastline – Love victims (Temple One Remix)

Again, Joe Garrett aka Temple One makes a fantastic remix elevating an already very interesting original track to a hymn.

Paul van Dyk – Forbidden fruit (Giuseppe Ottavani Remix)

There are a few gems on the remix album containing Paul’s classic tunes. This one, “forbidden fruit” was always one of my favorite tracks from PvD. Giuseppe successfully kept the best parts of the track, made it faster and sound even better than the original version.

Paul van Dyk – Nothing but you (Super8 & Tab Remix)

Anjunabeats residents and Finnish DJs Super8 and DJ Tab did a fantastic job here.

Phillip Alpha – Sudden Changes (Original Mix)

At the Anjunabeats forum there was a big discussion about how similar this track sounds compared with Daniek Kandi’s tracks who coproduced this. So what? Yes, sure, it was influenced by him but it has it’s own style as well.

New releases
Jun 23rd, 2009 by Dietmar

Freshly bought here are some very good new trance tracks:

Oceanlab – I am what I am (Lange remix): While “Lonely girl”  just came out as the next single, this track is available on the remix album. By far the best remix/song on that album. Another quality mix by Lange whose releases are always addictive masterpieces.

Joe Garrett – Afterglow (Temple One Mix): To clear it up – Joe Garrett *is* Temple One. I got no idea why he used his real name for this production, it is in the same style as his other tracks. Maybe because it was released at a different label.

Gareth Emery – Exposure/Metropolis: These tracks came out simultaneously and it is difficult to judge which one of them wins. I’ll give the prize to Metropolis though.

trance shopping
Mar 17th, 2009 by Dietmar

It’s been a while since I went shopping getting newly released trance tracks.  Many of the released tracks in 09  are really good, so its often hard to decide which one to get and difficult to find out which remix I prefer. So, here is what I’ve got:

Super 8 & Tab: Delusion (Original Mix) – This was one of the first releases of the year from Anjunabeats and what a beauty this is. The spheric voice fits perfectly to the stomping beat, as we Germans would say, its an “Ohrwurm” (earworm) ;)

Bartlett & Dyor: Floating Beyond (Lange Remix) – Nearly everything released by Lange and his label has something addictive to it. Perfect: the fantastic simple instrumental melody kicking in towards the 2nd part of the song

Simon Patterson – Thump (Original Mix): What can I say? This is – so far – his best release. People who like Paul van Dyk’s early works will love the beat, it is mixed perfectly and the break is uplifting and sublime. This tune rocks.

Adymus – Kaleidoscope Eyes (Original Mix): This track was getting noticed big by the trance community. It is a little bit unusual but a pure beauty and it is released by Enhanced Recordings. They have a special action over at Audiojelly due to their 50st release. If you buy one track from Enhanced, you’ll get two other tracks for free.

Update: Meanwhile I got my free Enhanced Tracks as they are:

Temple One – Forever Searching (Adam Nickey Remix): “Forever searching” belongs to my favorite trance tracks of all times. Back then I decided for the Original Mix, this one here is superb as well though, the break is just fantastic.

Hodel & Hornblad – Hydrogen (Ferry Tale Universal Remix): A very difficult decision since there are many good remixes out there of this track. This remix is very dreamy and floating.

track shopping
Sep 20th, 2008 by Dietmar

The recent move to downtown Berlin with its time-consuming agendas, getting settled in etc. etc made it almost impossible to listen to music or even getting an overview of what’s new and good on the trance market. But before all this I already had some tracks filed under the category “to be bought next time I am able to” and when everything was done, the move complete and things were getting in order and cozy here in the new apartment I finally found the time to listen to some new or at least newer releases. The result was a pretty big amount of tracks that I liked and I am sure some of you out there are eager to know about them or want to have some recommendations for the next time, you guys go shopping ;) So, here we go:

John Askew – Fade to black (Original Mix): I always was very fascinated by the “perfect beat”, John uses in his tracks. But often enough they weren’t “trancy” enough for me, the beat was all that there was, quite monotonous stuff. This here is different though, a track with a lot of depth plus the beat – what an excellent combination

Temple One – World beyond (Original Mix): I admit the expectations for Temple One’s new tracks were very high on my side since his old track “Forever searching” was my favorite track of last year. “A world beyond” easily competes with the previous release and it delivers a very beautiful break that goes down your spine.

Master & Nickson – the 5th dimension (Daniel Kandi’s Bangin’ Mix): The thing about Justine Suissa’s singing is that almost everytime I listen to it, I get goosebumps all over my body. What a disappointment though was her album in cooperation with the project of Above & Beyond under the name “Oceanlab”. No lack of quality in her singing but many of the songs are ambient, not in the style Oceanlab used to sound before and often enough maybe only suitable for background music in the supermarket. So, if you like to listen to the classic “Justine Suissa sings on a danceable trance track” this remix by danish DJ Daniel Kandi is the one you want to own. Simply fantastic.

Andy Duguid featuring Leah – Wasted (Original Mix): The beat and the style reminds me of Lucas & Beltram’s “Trust me”, the whole atmosphere of this very unusual, fantastic song is extremly balearic. It is something you like to hear when you are into the old Chicane stuff and the singing fits perfectly into this well-mixed track.

favorite tracks at the moment
Dec 5th, 2006 by Dietmar

The lack of regular personal charts in this blog doesn’t mean that this year was a bad year for trance in my view – no, there were lot of good tunes actually. But there were phases when you had to wait a while until something really good was released again. And besides that there were times that I didn’t really listen to music that much at all. Nevertheless, at the moment I do and these are my favorite trance tracks right now:

Something older: Robert Nickson – Close your eyes (Dub Mix)

Something older but this remix was just released in the download shops: Dogzilla – Without you (John O’ Callaghan Mix)

Something new: Kai del Noi – Beyond Doubt (Original Mix)

Waiting for releases
May 18th, 2006 by Dietmar

Over and over it happens, that DJ’s play very new trance tracks at stations like etn.fm that sound great but no matter how hard you try, you won’t find them anytime soon at the download stores. Now, I know that for instance with rock it’s the same that you will listen to something on the radio that isn’t even out and buyable but I can’t remember waiting such long times for releases as with trance tracks. I don’t know why the labels do that, what is the reason?

It might just happen though that these new tracks are being even played so many times at the stations, that when they actually come out you have no desire anymore to buy them because you heard them often enough.
