Melodic ambience

In dieser Stadt scheint es ein notorisches Bestreben zu geben, dieses braun-grüne Gestrüpp, genannt “Baum” möglichst weiträumig aus dem Sichtfeld zu verbannen, selbst wenn dies (noch) gar nicht notwendig ist. Nachdem ein Investor noch ein Büro/Geschäftsgebäude an der Ecke Unter den Linden/Friedrichstrasse bauen will - geniale Idee, wir haben so wenige davon und es gab bisher auch kaum Leerstand in Berlin - sind nun zum Start der Baumassnahme gleich alle Bäume am Platz gefällt worden. Diese Massnahme war aber zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt meines Erachtens recht überflüssig, soll doch auf dem leeren Platz nach dem Abbruch des dortigen Hotels erst mal dolle die WM befeiert werden (wo in Berlin wird eigentlich nicht gefeiert werden?) , bevor das neue Gebäude entstehen soll.

Nun sind die Bäume einer Kahlheit auf dem Platz gewichen und das Ganze erinnert mich an eine ähnliche Aktion vor längerer Zeit, bei der in einem Wohnviertel zig Bäume aufgrund des Denkmalschutzes weichen musste. Denn ursprünglich gab es in der besagten Siedlung keine Bäume und dieser Zustand sollte wieder hergestellt werden.

One of the reasons why many tourists visiting Berlin at this time of year enjoy their stay might be the special fascination of german Christmas markets. Berlin is big, and the variety of Christmas markets is huge. This year more than 50 markets are spread all over the city - many of them opened today.

Now, some of them are very small (5 - 10 stands), a few of them consist mostly of stands having nothing to do with Christmas, but most of them are definitely worth experiencing. My favorite is the one at the Opernpalais where the ambience is warm and romantic.

There are beautiful historical buildings surrounding the Christmas market and there are many diverse stands. It is located on Unter den Linden where all the trees down the street are nicely illuminated every year (hopefully the big construction zones will not ruin the mood).

I recommend visiting more than one market because many of them have their own special atmosphere.
